Sewing machine repair course?
Where can I find information on courses for repairing industrial sewing machines?
I have only found 2 courses on the net so far…
One through White Sewing Center, which seems to be more about home sewing machines. And one through sewingmachinerepair.com .
Union Special Sewing Machine Co. conducts intensive, hands-on training on their machines. The classes generally last for 6 months to 2 years, depending on the depth of instruction required. These classes are, unfortunately, in Germany. Now please understand that the above information is about 5 or 6 years old, but contacting the company should yield more current information. If you are interested in learning about one or more specific machines, perhaps for your own repairs, I might recommend looking into contacting local sewing machine repair centers to see if they conduct brief classes in basic service and maintenance of your machine. If you are looking for a career in repairing machines, you might look into apprentice programs in your area.
35 years ago, having tired of working on marine diesels, I walked into a small sewing machine dealership, talked my way into a job, and the rest is history. Since then I have worked in a variety of factories, stores, and owned my own business repairing both home and industrial machines. If you are in the Seattle area, I would be willing to teach you the basics, but am unwilling to travel too far out of the area.
