what is the difference between embroidery and normal sewing?
i want to make a pillow for Christmas for my brother. I wanted to embroider a picture, but im not sure how. is there any difference between normal sewing and embroidery? can i just embroidery if i know how to sew normally?
Embroidery is decorative stitching, while sewing is normally attaching two or more pieces of fabric together for structural purposes, like making clothes. Some of the usual hand sewing stitches like running stitch, back stitch and herringbone are also used for embroidery.
I’m assuming you’re talking about hand embroidery here — machine embroidery is mostly an entirely different skill set.
Hand embroidery doesn’t have to take forever… this is a 9″ friendship quilt square that took me

There are three colors of floss used. Counting fabric and thread, it could be redone for under $3 — so embroidery can be a really inexpensive hobby. Add maybe $5 for a hoop that you’ll use time and again and a packet of needles, and you’re in business.
