What are some good sources of info for an aspiring tailor?
Hi there, I’d like to get my own sewing equipment and try to make some garments. I figure I’d have to start small obviously so I can build my skills, but I’m not sure where to get the resources to learn.
Can anyone recommend some sites or books perhaps that are suitable for a beginning seamsperson? Note I’ve never used a sewing machine in my life.
You should try to find sewing classes in your area to learn the basics. It seams simple, but there is a lot to learn!
You can look at the Complete guide for sewing (I think it’s called like that). It’s a book that shows you how to sew zippers, pockets, waistbands, finishings, etc…
You can also buy patterns at fabric stores so that you dont have to make the patterns on top of learning to sew!
You can also find a college that teaches fashion design and learn how to draw, make patterns and sew! If you want to be a designer, pattern maker or tailor as a career!
