Stretch Needle
Is the Kingman to Needles stretch of Route 66 as bad as the guidebooks make out?
I’m interested in finding out from anyone who has driven the stretch of Route 66 from Kingman to Needles, passing through the Sitgreave Pass and Oatman, exactly how difficult this road is to drive.
A couple of guidebooks I’ve read about this stretch of road refer to it as ‘the notorious Sitgreave Pass’ and talk about narrow dirt-track roads and steep winding hairpin bends.
Quite frankly, it’s enough to make me think we should bypass this section and stick to the interstate!
Is it really as bad as the guidebooks make out?
(I’m from the UK so will be driving a hire car on the other side of the road from what I’m used to, in case that makes a difference!)
I’d be grateful for the advice of anyone who has driven this stretch of road.
Surely someone out there must know , or at least have driven over, this stretch of road!?
