Singer Sewing Machines Troubleshooting
Sewing Machine won’t raise the bobbin thread?
I have a Singer Stylist 543, so it’s an older machine, but it’s been running great until this problem started! It won’t raise the thread with the hand wheel, but if I use the foot pedal it will grab the bobbin thread. The wheel makes the needle move, so I’m not sure why it isn’t working.
After I get the thread up with the food pedal thread bunches (HUGE bunches) in loops underneath the fabric and the top thread will break after a couple of inches.
I’ve checked other troubleshooting sites, and my machine is threaded correctly. I’ve played with the top tension. (I haven’t been able to figure out much about the bottom tension, but I’ve never messed with it.) I have sewn a number of items with this machine before – I’m not a total newbie. Help! Any ideas?
I put in a new needle (and yes, I put it in all the way) and it broke when I tried it with just the hand wheel. Could my timing be off or something?
Rethread top and bottom ensuring the bobbin is threaded correctly and change your needle. Make sure the thread is the same top and bottom. You will have to look around the bobbin case to make sure there is no thread left in there because if there is, it will do this again. Tension is rarely the problem especially if the machine was sewing fine then acted up suddenly.
