Sewing Machines With Embroidery Feature
Ready to buy embroidery machine, any suggestions?
I love my Brother sewing machine and my business has expanded so I am ready to take the leap into an embroidery/sewing machine combo. I would mainly be monogramming but would like added features as well. Does anyone have experience with Brother’s machines or do you have any you like better? Thanks!
This is a super brand and the leader in machine embroidery.
Nothing is better than Brother or Babylock.
Combos are more expensive than stand alone embroidery machines.
The less expensive machines have a maximum embroidery area of 4″ x 4″ and this will limit the design size the machine can embroider. This is built into the embroidery machine’s computer and no matter how large the hoop being used, the machine will not open any larger size design.
Next issue – getting designs to the embroidery machine. The less expensive machines are limited to using memory cards and you will need to buy reader/writer unit that is compatible with the brand and format of the embroidery machine – same for the rewritable card the unit uses.
For less than $1,000, you should be able to get a Brother or Babylock that has the larger embroidery area and USB connectivity.
UBS connectivity will be either a cable that comes with the machine and connects to the PC when you want to send downloaded (from a CD or the Internet) designs to the embroidery machine. The other method is the USB flash stick.
Bottom line – larger than 4 x 4 embroidery area and easy connectivity
Visit the dealers and let them demo what they have.
If you decide on a machine that uses the memory card only, check Internet vendors such as Allbrands and Sewing Supply Warehouse for prices. Dealers are usually more expensive and not that knowledgeable about using machine embroidery software.
