Sewing Machine Needles Sizes
Why does my Kenmore sewing machine sew with the upper tension too loose, but the bottom tension perfectly?
The top lays pretty flat.. almost looks like a line instead of stitches. I’ve changed the needle/thread/pretty much everything.. I know I’m using the right size needle for my fabric, but this happens to I think every fabric I sew on. It doesn’t matter if I’m using it on 1 or 9, it all looks the same. The bobbin sews well though. Why is this and how can I change it?
You may have threaded the machine with the presser foot down and it should always be up when threading.
Double check the bobbin, just to be sure the thread is feeding from the spool in the correct direction and through the guides on the bobbin case.
Check the manual to be sure the needle is inserted correctly. On some machines, this is with the flat side of the needle shaft facing the back of the sewing machine.
Check the maintenance section of the manual for cleaning the machine – this needs to be done pretty often.
If the problem continues, the machine will have to go into the shop for service. The timing may need adjusting or the tension control needs to be replaced – both need to be done by a professional.
