How do I fit the motor belt on my singer 413 sewing machine?
All motors driven by belts have a mechanism that allows the loosening of the spool (usually the one away from the motor), so that the belt can be removed and checked or replaced. Look for a butterfly nut near the spool. It is loosened and tightened in the usual directions (lefty loosy, righty tighty). It shouldn’t take much effort to loosen the spool. These are only meant to be hand tightened. After replacing your belt, pull the spool out until it’s tight on each side of the spool, then tighten the butterfly nut again.
