Sewing Machine Applique
Sewing machine technique query!?
Hi there!
I am having a little trouble with figuring out how to sew an applique onto the front of a t-shirt using a sewing machine. It has occured to me that I can’t think of a way to do it without sewing the back and front of the t-shirt together!
The best I can explain is: The t-shirt is a plain ready made t-shirt bought wholesale, I want to sew, for example, a large flower onto the front, to do this using a sewing machine I imagine I would have to cut the t-shirt in half (which, obviously, is madness!) or scrunch up the tshirt so as not to sew the front and back together, but then the picture on the front might not be in the correct place.
If anyone knows what I mean and can help then any advice is appreciated!

There is a large hole at the bottom of the shirt, where your body goes! stick your hand in there. now drape the front of the shirt over your hand. See? you didn’t have to cut the shirt to do that, did you? Now imagine how you can apply that same principle to placing the front part only into your sewing machine. The space and the bottom, where your torso goes is is large enough that you can open it up, and place only the front of the shirt in the machine and sew on it. The back part will simple hang there and do nothing. It won’t be scrunched, there’s lots of room, and you only sew the front. You don’t need to cut the shirt, not where there’s that great big gaping hole at the bottom where your body goes!
