Needs Advice on Buying a Sewing Machine.?
Hi. I’m looking into buying a sewing machine. I’m a little tired of using my grandmother’s late 70′s sewing machine (which is a pain), and am desparetly in need of a new one. I have to say that I am a total (stress the total) beginner and I do have a tight budget. But I want something sturdy, functional, and easy-to-use. Any advice on what to go with? Thanks.
well as far as the sturdy part goes you won’t find anything made now as sturdy as the machine you are using. you may want to take it in for a tune up instead of getting rid of it. i’m not fond of the new singer machines. they are going on reputation only and some day it will run out. my favorite all around machine is a janome. the stitch quality is the same if you buy a $100 machine or a $5,000 machine. (janome makes the kenmore (sears) brand) sears sometimes runs good sales so you might want to watch for one. the brother line you can get at walmart etc. is a good machine. i did manage to wear one out in 2 years but at the time i was making drapes professionally as well as my other sewing. it is best to be able to try a machine out so make sure you can return it if you don’t like it. machines are kinda like cars. what will feel great to one person will be horrible for another.
