Industrial Leather Sewing Machines
sewing leather – industrial locktich flat bed or cylinder?
Anyone have any idea which is going to be more useful in the manufacture of handbags?
My manufactures use lots of cylinder machines, but they seem quite hard to achieve good straight lines… any ideas?
Considering all the tight spaces and little corners that comprise handbags, a cylinder bed is a far better choice for handbags. Cylinder bed machines also have more needle penetrating power for thicker bag weight leathers. The large bed if a lockstitcher makes small corners and tight turns awkward and frustrating, lockstitchers are best or large or long seams on lighter weight fabrics and garment weight leather. They don’t always have the same needle power as cylinders as they are made for speed. You would be wise to test drive both machines on the type of leather you will use in your business, that will give you the best idea of what you need. If you have the resources for both then buying both would be a worthy investment. I have a fashion design studio and I have and use multiple sewing machines for different purposes such as buttonholer, blind hemmer, coverlock, lock-stitch and overlocker.
