History Of Sewing

What do you study when you study fashion or history of fashion?
Does it include practical skills like drawing or sewing?
It depends because if you are studying fashion then you are studying how to spot trends and also how to create (aka sew and draw) those clothes. If you are exclusively studying fashion history then you are still studying how to spot trends but you are also studying how those trends were a representation of the period and what were the reasons that they changed. For example during the 1920′s the women started wearing the “flapper” outfit which was a shorter skirt, a short haircut, flat breasts, etc, and they did it because they were trying to show the world they could be independent and be more like men and be more sexually liberated blah blah blah and so on and so forth.
And even if you are studying to sew and draw you would still have to study fashion history because there is a cycle which all trends a subjected to, so a fashion designer can go “oh next summer go-go boots are due to be fashionable” because it is the way of the industry.
