Brother Ls2125i Sewing Machine

bobbin won’t move/spin?

I have a Brother LS2125i sewing machine, about 3 years old, infrequently used. I was sewing a basic straight line the other day when something spontaneously went wrong. The needle still goes up and down, the motor still runs, the feed dogs still move, but when I took a look at what was going on underneath, it appears the bobbin (or it’s casing apparatus) isn’t moving/turning. I disassembled and reassembled it, but I can’t see what’s wrong with it. The needle won’t pick up the bobbin thread either when I attempt that, so I’m pretty sure something is out of alignment near the bobbin. I may be able to fix it myself with some guidance, but I’m not that familiar with how sewing machines operate and I can NOT afford to take it in somewhere to get it professionally fixed. I called the manufacturer but they weren’t very helpful (they just told me to try the basic general fixes, like re-threading, making sure the tension is on medium, oiling the machine, etc.) Advice?

The bobbin shouldn’t be moving much, but there’s a piece called the sewing hook that should be moving, sort of orbiting the bobbin — the red thing in the diagram is the sewing hook:

What was going on just before “something spontaneously went wrong”? Did you have a thread jam, see the needle bend, hear any noises, feel something bend or hesitate? What fabric were you sewing, and were you crossing a seam at the time? Have you replaced the needle?
